Picki

Picki is a project I worked on for two coworkers who were looking to explore an idea they had for a mobile application and wanted a proof of concept. The concept was for people to browse restaurants in their area exclusively by pictures instead of typical review ratings.

01. Branding

The first step while working on Picki was to create branding that would accurately and effectively represent the concept of the application.

Logo

To do this, I started with creating a logo that immediately communicates to the user just what the concept of the mobile application entails. The finalized version makes use of the widely recognizable location icon, but in the place of the standard whitespace circle there is now a spoon. This combination communicates to the user that the brand represents both food and the user’s locality.

Both fonts selected for the full wordmark represent an upscale elegance that evokes an essence of high-end restaurants that the app hopes to promote.

02. Website Design

The goal of the Picki website was to create a one page site that the company could direct potential users to while the app was still in the early stages of development. The site would need to capture users’ emails to provide them with future updates while also needing to represent the overall branding of the project effectively.
